On Wednesday I spent a wonderful day at RSPB Minsmere, with a total of 62 species. Highlights from the morning included some very close Common Terns, a handful of Sandwich Terns, 2 Little Gulls, and loads of Cetti's Warblers - one even showed long enough for me to get a couple of photos.
During the day I had around 6 sightings of Bitterns, all in flight and reasonably distant, but I was thrilled to see them so many times as I haven't seen one for a couple of years. I spent some of the afternoon in Bittern Hide, after failing to see any Adders of the Adder Trail, but I got gorgeous views of Hobby as a couple of them zoomed around in front of the hide - too quick though so I only managed to get one decent photo. I also really enjoyed watching a pair of Marsh Harriers over the reedbed, and I think that was the closest I've ever got to one.
In the afternoon I headed over to the production village for my interview on Springwatch Extra. It was a strange experience, and very nerve racking, but I thoroughly enjoyed my live interview. You can watch it on BBC iPlayer here. My grandparents and I then ate dinner with the Springwatch crew members, and watched the main show with the other members of the Unsprung Audience, before walking over to the studio for the Unsprung show. It was very interesting to see 'behind the scenes' of the show, and it was an enjoyable end to a long day.
